Round 6: Bedknobs and Bloodnuts

Today I have discovered 2 things.

1.  Despite popular opinion, distance is NOT a linear proposition.  Evidence?  The 8km at the end of a 50km run is definitely further than 8km at the start of a 50km run.
2.  Bloodnuts have a genetic advantage in sport.  I swear every 2nd runner today had Ranga flowing free through their veins.  Quite disturbing.

So how do they get this advantage?  Well, it has got to be that ANGRY gene that permeates their body.  And can you blame them?  It's like hearing for a blind man - things have to improve to compensate.  That disturbing shock of red has cursed them from birth and thus their legs need to develop to compensate for their disabilities (lets be honest - red hair can be the least of the problems for some of these 'people').

Evidence?  Cameron Ling anyone?  Here is a man so ugly and red that his own parents changed their names.  And yet he garners respect on the footy field because he has nothing to lose.  You or I wouldn't dare put our beautiful faces into the bottom of a pack, but Ling?  The bigger the facial scarring, the better the surgery.  BRING IT ON he says.

But back to the run because I have no interest in footy for some reason.  It did seem that every second runner was either disgracefully red or 'strawberry blonde' - that greatest of misnomers for a bloodnut.   I spent about 44k running with a gal with a cap on and it was only 35k in, as I noticed and commented on the large contingent of bloodnuts infesting the event, that I realised she too had a hint of bloodnut under that cap.  She chose to call it 'strawberry blonde' too, but I didn't let her get away with it, and she didn't dismiss the factor as significant.  Indeed, despite us being passed by a walker (yes... seriously... those bastards are FAST!) she went on to win the ladies division of the Ultra (I beat her of course).  More proof if ever you needed one.  In second and third were brunettes.  Not a blonde to be seen.  You see?  Society deems the blonde need do no more.  Evolution of the ranga-est.

Lingy led his team to victory of the hapless Tigers.  108 points.  You would think being picked by the Tiges would be the equivalent of being a bloodnut - it should inspire all sorts of anger.  But it ain't helping them.  Meanwhile on friday night the Doogies led for all but about 6 minutes in their low scoring effort against the Sinners.  Of course it was the 6 at the end and that seems to matter for some reason (a bit like that 8k at the end of a run).  This was the first time EVER that a game at Etishadmypants Stadium had an aggregate score under 100 points, but in that last 8 minutes the Sinner ran amok and stole the game from the Doggies, who fall out of the 8.  Cooney.  Another bloodnut.  Is Barry Hall a bloodnut?  I've never seen his hair.  But it was great to see some sparks there... the odd facial touch here, the odd 'wasn't me' there.  These are the cracks that will lead to a suspension and no amount of ginger justice will stop it.

The Crows finally showed something in a game this year apart from a willingness to handball into danger, and a decent game it made.  Although I was watching in a pub in canberra with no sound on.  It makes a difference having a cuppla player back in the backline.  Imagine what it will be like when we don't have 13 injuries.  Anyway, the Paps won - waltzed away in the last quarter actually.  6 games without a win... Thank god we play the Tigers this week!!!!  Even the Cats can beat them!

The Dees fairytale was proven a fallacy (not a phallus, see?) as the Roos beat em.  They never really looked in trouble, and Bradshaw's 6 goals against his old team proved the difference as the Swans ran out winners by 20 points.  It was a tough game but the Swans keep top position - glad they are my new favorite team.

The Bombers.  Oh lord I can see Dave's face now.  It looks a little like Bert Newton after a few drinks.  Matthew Knights will be deemed a genius by the fella.  "Give Him Another Contract Extension" he'll be saying.  Of course he didn't pick em. The Hawks... well they have lost 5 in a row and despite being in great company - 1 game up on the Mighty Mighty's - I am guessing that the Hawks supporters amongst you - line in the sand, madjakob - will be slightly concerned.

And them Blues... well they stayed pretty close the the Pies... until I got home... and then BANG.  All over.  Simple.

The Ladder
Leading the way this week was bjak with a rather handy full house. The great part is he picked the games a few weeks ago as he rumbles around the world on yet another trek, and despite being a Crows supporter he picked the  Paps... THIS IS HERESY!  You will find your passport revoked on re-entry.  The 8 from 8 gives him a bonus point and that puts him into the lead along with a few others... it's getting tight at the top.  Yep along with bjac, the D Master continues to lead, along with a pair of schafers, a junkie and a pap.  Too easy.  Apparently.

IN the side comp sadly young Beccle picked the Hawks.  Whoops.  And then there were 5.  Battling for $70 now.  It's getting worthy.  ONE GAME TO PICK FROM - Eagles v Hawks. Simple.

Round 7
I have been looking forward to round 7 for a few weeks now... why?  The Crows play the Tigers.  PLEASE GIVE US A WIN!!!!  But that aside there are some great games on.  It starts on friday night with the Dees n Dogs.  4 weeks ago this was a bye, but right now, despite the odds I am seeing... well I reckon the  Dees are a chance.  Dunno if I will back em but they are a chance.

The Bombers host the Power on Saturday and we all know the history of teams that have played the Crows the week before eh?  They WIN!  Well I am not sure on this one.  The Bombers are crap.  The Paps... well they aren't great are they?  Tough pick.  And you can add the Eagles/Hawks to the same category.  Damnit do i have to tip this week?

The Pies will smash the Roos, but the Lions n Dockers... well the Dockers are playing good footy but after that derby... a few injuries maybe?  Let's wait n see.  Again.  The Cats n Swans?  This is a test and I'm not sure if the Swans will pass.  But they are playing good footy and I'm not sure the Cats are really.   Finally the Saints and Blues.  The Blues beat the Cats then got pumped but the Pies, but the Saints are only just getting on eh?  Hmmm.. Lets see....
