Round 1. Done. Dusted.

Round 1. GONE!

NOW...

8 Winners. 8 Losers. But we all know there is only one REAL loser. Ahhh the Mighty Tiggers! Splendid Stuff! C'mon - who amongst us REALLY was unhappy to see the Couz go off the ground? Who amongst us didn't think 'thank the Lord our team didn't pick the Ice Man'? And who amongst us didn't chuckle at the Slaughter that was Round 1, Game 1, 2009? Glorious. OK, there may have been one person - Judge Dredd started off the year picking the Tiggers as his Ded Cert and proclaimed the Glory of Ben would part the waters and lead them to Success. Well Judge, you were halfway there cos he led them to a place called Suck.

Oh yes Benny-Boy, you can shave yer body daily, you can wax yer crack on the hour every hour, but we ALL know you took a hit of the sweet elixir of life at 3 quarter time and it was THAT that caused some foot-wobble and ultimately your demise! And the thing is none of us blame you. Can any of you imagine the ignominy of coming down from some high in LA and then realising you are a member of the Tiggers? That only one team thought you were capable of playing AFL footy again, and that team is a bunch of clowns who still think Richo is a champion? That one team is one that has made the finals less times than Brendan Nelson topped 10% approval in leadership ratings? That HAS to be depressing. Self Medication is the Key Benny-Boy. And NONE of us blame you now.

Of course we all know Round 1 means nothing. Many a team has started with a bang and finished with a fizzle. And to be honest that team is usually the Tiggers themselves. This year was it the Blues? They played some good footy but it WAS against the Tigs. I love hearing the experts declare teams CHAMPIONS after a single round of footy. It warms my cockles. Come on Mike Sheahan - tell us who the good'uns are - you are The Man.

Vossy got his Lions off to a winning start. Daniel Rich picked up 21 possessions in his first game - handy effort. But again it was a win over my Wooden Spooner pick, the Beagles. *shrugs* I thought my dead cert was dead there for a bit but no - the Lion pulled through with one good quarter of footy. Whoever said you needed to play four quarters is a liar. The Lions were unconvincing. The Cats did the Hawkers in the Grand Final replay. The Cats should have won by more but they clearly got a bit bored towards the end. Buddy keeps looking the goods and the Hawks do look handy but the Cats were wasteful.

On saturday those Mighty Mighty Crows did their best to hand the game to the Pies. Apparently it was their first win at the Geeee for 11 years. Of course what that doesn't say is that the Crows almost always play the Pies at the Dome, not the MCG. Oh, and they beat them regularly there. I seem to remember not so long ago sitting beside Mr Nipster and his bunch of not-so-happy Pies supporters as the Crows secured another 4 points. Anyway, the Crows looked reasonable and they'll finish in the top half. Pies, similar. That cannot be said of the Swans. Sorry Sydney-siders but it is going to be ugly. 2 quarters of football, 2 behinds. Oh Dear. Can't say i'm looking forward to being one of 60 people at ANZ Stadium next week! Line In The Sand and MadJakob - will you be there? If so then I may need a beer before the slaughter.

On Sunday there was a bunch of who cares wins. None of cared. The 4 Roos supporters in the world found a dark room with a small telly and watched their team beat the soon to be extinct demons. That it was only 5 goals the diff speaks volumes. The Paaaaaah scraped together some handouts down on Rundle Mall and caught a bus out to AAMI to take on the Bomb-outs. Beers flowed all the way to the seats, and the crowd was satiated - even it if was West End Draught *sighs*. But lets be clear here - not even Bombers supporters picked the Bombers. Eh Dave? I love a man with confidence. And Dave. And over in the West the Dockers got the whole clock thing mixed up and slept in an extra 8 hours to lose to the Doggies. Clowns.

The Ladder
FIFTY SEVEN TIPSTERS! Excellent effort folks - thanks to the recruiters! Before I go further, I would like to say that we have amongst us a faction of tipsters that are too young to drink legally, and as such are clearly more likely to tip to advantage. Yes, D Master, Luke (the cute one) - apparently this is ANOTHER cute one other than me????, maddstarr, hschafer (hard to work out who he may belong to), and dean rba have all joined up and I bid them welcome. Some of their parentage may be of dubious Collingwood heritage, however, they will forge their own way. To keep it interesting amongst them, if they end up outside the cash at the end of the year, the highest ranked one of them will get $40 for their efforts. Of course chances are that one of them will win... if so... well the likely prize split is in the Blog.

With that number of tipsters there is a huge spread, but leading the way with the full 8 from 8 - plus a bonus point - is our European Correspondent the Asylum Seeker! Nice start. Behind him sit 19 people on 7 from 8, and the rest drag out behind. It is early in the season so don't be too worried if yer a couple of tips down. But did you survive the Knockout Comp? 9 people knocked out. Next week it jackpots to $20 but there's a lotta people still in there... as you'd expect.

Round 2

The second round throws up some interesting battles, but a majority of them are reasonably straight forward - are you gonna tip an upset? Starting with the Crows at home against the Sinners, the home ground advantage will no doubt throw you all the Crows way - you are a bunch of bandwagoners. Get on board.

The Cats will absolutely destroy the Tiggers and if the Pies lose to the Dees then I will chuckle. I won't get a chance to chuckle. Brissy have a chance to show they are more than a top 15 side if they can beat the Blues (they won't), and the Swans... well... they'll be a happy team at Hawthorn.

The Bombers will get 1/4 of their 2009 season wins against the Dockers, and the Doggies will beat the Roos. In the final tough game, the Eagles take on the paaaah. With the Weagles playing at home... well this IS a tough game. Hmmm. I think the Paaah may have the edge here. Did I say that?

GOOD LUCK ALL! Any questions...
