Short & Sweet

Ahhh yes... just like Mrs Horseboy.

We've spent the weekend moving house which means I saw NO footy. Normally that does not distract from my ability to dissect in detail all the comings and goings but I am Time Thrifty so this really will be short and sweet.

What I do know is the results and the injury count. Richmond won. Richo gone. Did I not tell you the Tigers would win? The answer is of course yes. But I didn't pick em. The Roos lose Boomer Harvey for 12 weeks, and they are in a world of pain my friends. You may also find that I told you the smart money would be on the Bombers over the Pies. Did they win? Yes indeedy. Did I tip em? No. Big Hille is out of action for a while. Shame. I seem to remember ALSO telling you that the Dockers would get one on the board against the Swans. Did I tip em? YES! YAY! *phew* And in an upset I didn't tell you OR pick, the Blues got one over the Aker-Doggies. Yup, the Akers drops out and the Doggies are gone.

On Friday night the Power put up a really good performance to only just get beaten by a lucky Saints. Lucky that they were playing the Paps and absolutely smashed them. My how I chuckled. The Cats gave the Lions a belting, and the Hawkers accounted for the Beagles. Oh and in what must have been an enthralling game, the Crows beat the Dees in a very low scoring affair. Glad I didn't have the telly. But apparently it has made 1/4 of all Paps supporters feel confident for the Showdown.

The Ladder
In a week that skilled tippers managed 5 if they were lucky, 2 tippers managed a 7 - Delores and Doorknob. Huge effort - and it doesn't bode well for the rest of your tipping if you get 7 in a round like that! In the lead we now have 4 tippers on 28 - Judds Fixers, the Junkie, PavPaaaaah and crowsfc. Behind them are a bunch.

In the side comp we lost 5 tippers and we're down to 12 tippers with $60 on the line. Choose wisely.

In the ponyboy comp leading the way is D Master. Too easy for the Maestro as he absolutely smashes his own brethren.

Next Week
There are some TOUGHIES. And it starts with the Roos and Pies. Pies should be faves here but never underestimate the Roos. Never overestimate them either. The Hawks n Carlton do battle in what should be a ripper. Clearly anyone can beat the Hawks, but it still needs to be done - they will want to fire up against the Bluebaggers to be a chance.

Tis Derby n Showdown week - Weagles will be too good for the Purple Malaise, while the Crows will have too much class against a team that lives for nothing else but beating the Crows and whomever is curently 15th or lower.

Brissy and Essendon - fark. Who can pick it? I'll toss a coin. Unlike the Cats n Dees - much like the US debt clock, they'll need to add another digit on the scoreboard for this game. The Swans will beat the Toothless Tiggers even without offering Clown on Clown action in LRT v Richo, and finally form says the Sinners over the Dogs, but I'll wait and hear if Aks is playing before that one...

Any probs...

Late...

Greetings... this weeks diatribe will be late as we are moving house... but two people got 7!!!! they must be CRAP! ;)

Round 4: Upset City.

Hidy Ho Folks! Yes, it is a little late but better than never. I was back in ye ole town of Adelaide for the weekend as it was my lil Sister's 21st. Ah bless. It was a Western theme, but I didn't go dressed as a bogan. I went as Tumbleweed while Mrs Horseboy did the Cactus thing. It was a resplendent evening where a beer or three was drunk and I saw absolutely no footy apart from Friday nights game, but that won't stop me from passing judgement.

It was a weekend for upsets ladymen. I was a happy chappy having placed some $ on the Swans (too easy - $2.15? yer kidding me eh?), but the biggest upset of the weekend surely was the Cats victory over the Crows? I tell you what, the Cats are a lucky team. They're lucky they have Ablett, Selwood, Corey, Chappers, Ugling, Bartel, Varcoe, Enright... I'll stop there - you get the picture. They are BLOODY lucky. ANY team would win with them running around. Try winning a game of footy when you have Lewis Roberts-Thompson running around for you, let alone win a Premiership - THAT is winning against the odds. I think they need to start handicapping teams, and LRT would be the dirt in the saddlebag.

Now, some of you may be wondering what happened to Horseboys tips on the weekend - cos yours truly is down in Oztips as having picked the Cats over his beloved Crows. Well, I must come clean. My finger slipped when I tipped. Simple. OK? Move on.

On friday night the Lions took on the Pies. What happened? The Lions were cruising it in and then next thing ya know, I look up at the Pies are even. Funny ole game. Eddie will find something to tear up over though no doubt. How good is Rich though? Very. In Melbourne a bunch of players ran around in a poo guernsey and were beaten by the Power. I'm not one for making excuses for other teams - I generally leave that to the Big Hitters (MadJacob), but let's be honest here Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa fans, the Hawks have more than half their best players out, so stop yer wa-hooing. If you can't beat half a Hawthorn team, you are even more rubbish than I thought. You are 2 from 4 after a dream draw. That tome of newspaper literaturs - the Sunday Mail - described the win as Port's best ever. Oh lordy. If that is true then god knows what you've been doing for the last few years. Pav, I still feel safe ;)

Over in the West the Purple Malaise scored 4.4 for the entire game and managed to contain the Sinners to under 20 goals. They played above expectations. Mark Harvey believes this is good solid preparation for his young players, cos there is nothing worse than expecting to win. See, THAT is what has got the Cats into trouble in recent years - too much winning. And luck. Cos the Cats never had to play with Dean Solomon in the team.

The Roos got home over the Bombers - just to annoy all tippers - and the Eagles beat the Doggies, apparently playing well. Finally, the Tigers. HA. oh I shouldn't take pleasure in other teams complete and utter failure but it IS funny innit? Poor ole Tezza. Will Benny-Boy come back to save them this week?

The Ladder
Tipping was a tough gig this week, and 6 from 8 was the max - well done to beandmor, dean rba and lady of the west for managing that. Overall it is that loyal servant of the Power - PavPaaaaaah leading by a point. Where others saw a wall of second string soft easy-option taking players, he saw a unit good enough to be the Hawthorn Reserves.

In the side comp we are down to 16 in the chase for what is up to $50. Many options caused people to fail on the weekend, but the Hawks took the most out. Whoops.

In the ponyboy ladder for the little leaguers, D Master and hschafer are duking it our for supremacy at the top. But only 2 point seperates the 5 tippers.

Round 5
It's all taking shape eh? Well... not really. But the Paaah finally have a proper test on friday night, hosting the Sinners. Pav, if the Paaaah beat the Sinners, I will stop bagging them. For a week.

In the traditional ANZAC day clash, the Bombers take on the Pies. These games are always hard tough affairs even when the Bombers are playing crap so it'll be worth watchin. The Pies will be favorites but dare I say the smart money may be on the Bombers.

Down in the Land of 2 heads and 23 digits, the Hawks will show that even half a team is better than a travelling brood of eagles, while the Dockers are a smokey against the Swans. It IS hard to pick them though. And then cometh the Tigers. Another possible smokey. Can they keep losing? The Roos are a team that can hand victory to anyone. Hmmm... logic and form say North will beat the Tigers but then where is the logic in videotaping chickens doing things to eachother and posting it on the net? These are the questions...

Geelong should be too good for the Lions, and the Doggies will be angry after their loss to the Eagles - they'll beat the Bluebaggers. Finally the Crows will get back on track against the RAMPANT demons.

Any questions...

BandWagoners and Off to Adelaide.

What a bunch of bandwagon supporters... - where were they in the mid 90's eh? EH?

Now, ladies, don't tear up, but I will be back in the City of Churches for my lil sisters 21st this weekend, so my diatribe will be a little later. I will pass on all your kind wishes to Bocky while I am there. Good to see the Crows took a hardline approach. Rumours that a new sign has gone up at The Shed declaring 'sister-club' status with Manly are still just rumours.

And yes, I will pack my desert boots and flannie shirt in an attempt to re-acclimatise.

Richo...

I can't believe I'm doing this... but I just traded Pavlich for... Richo... *sighs* YES I KNOW!!!!

Round 3 - Trashed n Treasure

Ahh the thrill of moving. Sweet Joy. It does take it out of one. But I have had enough time to catch the odd game of footy, so can't complain too much.

It is of course Stocktake time when you move - "should it stay or should I throw" to paraphrase the 2nd most over-rated band in History. We all know the MOST over-rated band so I won't bother mentioning their name. But yes, Stocktake. We had the obligatory Garage Sale aka Exchange of Items Amongst Neighbours. This is closely followed by the Trip to the Local Vinnies. Which is followed by the Whoops I Should Have Put That in the Sale Yesterday. It is all gold.

*sighs* Looking through the rubbish - I mean treasure - we found my '21st' key. Oh the glory days. I now know how it feels to be a Bombers supporter thinking of the 80's, a Dees supporter in the 50's, and a Dockers supporter... never. I was once a young mean moshin' machine *sighs* Music was good. None of this RUBBISH you hear now folks... oh no... it was all GOOD... the lyrics meant something man... so it is no wonder that The Crows were born around the same time as I was 21 eh? Now THERE is a lyric! The Pride of South Austraya - I think they got Johnny Young in to write that one. But I can't help but think the Crows are a little underdone a the moment - a bit like me at 19 really. Yes I won my battles in the Pit! Yes my Doc marks are all over numerous fellow kiddies heads n t-shirt. But it wasn't exactly a Motorhead gig was it? You Am I and Tumbleweed at the Holdy at the Bay is a fair double act but the Comancheros aren't on patrol are they? Ditto the Crows effort on Sunday. Yes, we won. With a player down. But we played the Dockers. I mean puh-lease. The Purple Haze are Crap. Now, let me spell that rude word for you. F.R.E.M.A.N.T.L.E. As Daaave would say. Rubbish. Yup you weren't in the minority if you picked 'em for bottom, and if you didn't pick em for bottom it's only cos you figured they'll probably beat the Bombers at home, the Dees everywhere, and the Cats at the Cattery just to piss you off when you made the Cats yer certainty.

But back to the Crows - no, at this stage I'm not declaring them Top. But they will finish Top 6. They'll finish above the Paaaah and earn me $50 in the process, and they'll certainly finish above the Dockers. And yes, even with Mr Bock in the Dock, they were 50/50 to beat the Dockers... so surely all the Adelaide Faithful would tip them. SURELY. I thought that with TreeFiddy flitting his way around Asia that we would have removed DISLOYALTY from the workbench, but no... the disloyal DO exist. And it has leapt across the Hay Plains like a rogue fruit fly on the vapour trail of a juicy valencia, and is now sitting in an abode in Adelaide somewhere. Yes, BOTH 101 and Gutterguard felt the need to be DISLOYAL this week. *sighs* Disappointing? Yes. Surprising? No. Well, I can't lie can I? At least the Grunter did the right thing - although I think they call that 'Hedging the Bets...'.

The Blues. They've got plenty of 21 year olds in their group and they have rave reviews. Are they the RatCat of our time? Don't Go Now? Over rated? Maybe. But they'll win more than they lose. And I don't hit skip when they get on the random play. As opposed to The Bombers. Better than we thought? NO! The Bombers are still crap. Just because Lloydy fell forward a half-dozen times, don't let them fool you. The Blues are allowed to have bad days - we all woke up with a few unsourced peas on the jim-jams only to get a stern talking to from The Coach. So yes, they lost, but they'll be back - the Bombers won't be.

Oh the Tigers. How can so many people have been so wrong? I admit I was one of them. THIRTEEN WINS I pencilled in for them in some stupid comp that forces you to pick the wins per team at the beginning of the season. Sheesh. It had to be an economists idea eh? The Tigers won't score 13 wins over the next 3 seasons. By Round 15 Danny Frawley will be the Coach again. And the doggies weren't much better. Is Adam Cooney the most pathetic Brownlow Medalist of all time? Akkers still has a touch of class though and there's enough to make them top 4.

The Cats n Pies. The Pies... well they were playing the Cats. Simple. And while yer pencilling in middle of the road teams, you can pencil the Sinners in. I'm not sure about you but I'm fairly comfy having picked the Eagles for bottom. Kerr and Cox aside, they have nothing. So really I couldn't care less how much the Sinners won by.

On the East Coast the Lions beat the Swans. What a stunning game. Fantastic. *yawns* jumble that round and you get swany. which is nearly swans. Any team that has LRT play 101 games for them will only ever win 1 premiership. THAT is my tip to you. The Lions will finish 11th with 8 wins. As will the Roos, cept percentage will push em down to 12th. The Hawks spanked em. And the Hawks lost to the Swans last week so do yer sums. The Roos are still coming to terms with some rampant chook. It's a bluddy chicken. Get over it. Did it have a name on it? Did it say "I Am Woman Chicken, I represent All Women Chicken?". I dunno. I don't think it did. All I know for sure is my chicken on you tube days are OVER. An Adelaide player would never do that to a chicken. We respect our poultry.

The Paps are Craps. But they have a favorable early draw and got to play the Dees. So people will get on that bandwagon. Tredders is Ports Matty Lloyd. And i almost apologise to Treddy for saying that. Tredders will kick a few goals on very rare occasions and keep himself in the team for long enough to be an overall hinderance to their progress. If he played cricket you would call him Haydos. Did you know Cassisi was their Captain? Apparently when he isn't hitting people off the ball, he plays in the midfield.

The Tipsters
Ladies, there were a bevvy of 7's this week but Horseboy was not one of them. Our leader was though - yes, working for the Royal Bank of Scotland is doing the Asylum Seeker much good with his tips and the 7 keeps in in the lead along with Chris Judd's price fixer. Behind them there is a spread forming... already the paulverizor is a round (with a bonus point) down on the leader. ouch.

In the Horseboy Jr. Comp, D Master and hschafer lead the way on 18 - I hope they are dealing out the brown stuff to their respective elders as they lead them mightily...

And in the Side Comp - it's up to $40 next week and a heap of fools fell out as they picked the Blues for the Ded Cert. Whoops. Down to 27 people - more than half gone in 3 weeks... ahhh glorious.

Round 4
Some interesting games this week. It's usually 5 or 6 rounds before we can really get a feel for writing off teams, but this week will show a few things...

First up the Lions n Pies. If the Pies are contenders, they'd want to win this one. We all know the Lions won't make the 8 but they won't be pushovers, so expect Eddy to be asking for answers on Monday from Mr Gieschen. On Saturday there are 2 pearlers. The Hawks n Power up first. Why is the a pearler? Because I enjoy watching the Paaah get smashed. HA! Then the Swans take on the Blues at the SCG. This is a tough pick. I'm tempted to go the Swans. But then for whatever reason I picked em against the Lions so don't trust me. The Blues will run run run. Shame I can't be there but if anyone wants a ticket or 3 let me know ASAP.

On Saturday night there will be 2 slaughters. *sighs* The Sinners will smash the Dockers, and I am not afraid to say that the Cats will likely have the measure of the young Crows. Bring on round 5 i say.

The Roos n Bombers. Oh Lordy. Two Rubbish Teams. Dave - who are you picking? Surely the Roos will be too good? In the battle for the bottom 14, the Tigers play the Dees. Oh I Will Laugh if the Dees win. Seriously, do you think Tez would last much longer if they lost? and the Eagles and Doggies in the West. When yer tipping here, don't forget what the Eagles did to the Paaah 2 weeks ago... oh ok... fair enough - it WAS the Paaaah....

Any probs... drop me a line!

Round 2: Old. Slow. Stupid.

Heya Ladies...

It's been a long week. I am getting Old. And with every gig I go to, I feel older... *sighs* But on occasion there is a gig that can make me feel young(er), and The Who was one such gig. I reckon you know yer at an oldies gig either when there are more people playing the pokies or bingo than watching the actual event - this would normally be at a NoiseWorks gig at the local RSL, or when the strobe effect from the light show gets a bounce off peoples chrome domes. And they all belong to women. Everyone was so old at The Who that I was younger than half the sons in the special "Grandfathers and Sons" area.

"Hope I Die Before I Get Old"... pardon? A bit late for THAT one Mr Daltrey. And there wasn't even a trace of irony in its delivery. Only Moonie managed to get that one right. But fair cop to them Guv’ - they did the deal. In the parlance of the industry, they Rocked. Mostly in rocking chairs. I was a bit taken aback to look to my left and see a grown man with a tear in his eye during Baba O’Reilly though. Struth.

The Crows played like a bunch of old men on Friday night against the Sinners. I'm going to blame the tough game the week before though. And the Umpires cos they are CRAP. Seriously. They are a plot-free zone at the moment. Bock gave away a free kick for breathing at Riewoldt halfway through the 3rd quarter. In Dave terminology, "They Are Rubbish". The umps I mean. OK, on the night The Sinners were too good. And Koshitsme has played 2 good games in a row. What is going on there? He's due to get blindsided. i think the Crows should tear up like Eddie.

But enough of the footy. Old age. I remember when I played cricket with the mighty Flinders University Cricket Club (go the FUCCs!) and the Highway Inn on Anzac Highway was considered "Grab a Granny". All you Adelaide folk out there know what I’m talking about… of course that probably meant the gals there were late 20s. If I were single and on the prowl I'd feel like I was going to a crèche if I went there now. *sighs*

So on Saturday arvo the Cats had an easy game against the Tiggers. Cept they didn't. See, again, it is because they had a tough game the week before... can you see how my ducks are falling into line? I don't think it is because they are all old. But they are all balding so who knows. Ottens out for the year. Too old. So, are the Tiggers actually a reasonable team? No. They are crap. The Cats just had a holiday. And you can put the Pies/Dees game in the same ballpark because we ALL know the Dees are crap. Fact. But yes, the Pies were a little tired early on before smashing em. Move on.

Of more questionable matter is the Swans n Hawks. The Hawks did play crap. And a majority of their goals came from free kicks. It was like they didn't know what to do when they were near the opposition goals. "Why can't we just run it through for another point? It won us a Premiership. What's the problem?". The umpires were again CRAP, this time with Bazza on the receiving end of some dubious decisions. I saw more tears – this time from MadJacob. But is it that the Swans aren't as bad as we all thought? Or did the Hawkers just put in a bad one... As Sammy Hagar once said, "Only time will tell if we stand the test of time". Lyrical genius, and unalterably true. Bless.

The Blues beat the Lions… and Browny goes on report. Blues looking reasonable. Lions destined for 12th.

And on Sunday as predicted the Bombers got ¼ of their season wins, the Doggies just got home against the Roos, and the Paaaaah showed they are Paaaaaathetic and lost to the Eagles. During the week Chad “Soft Boy” Cornes indicated he wants to play 22 games against the Bombers every yeare. Newsflash Boyo. EVERYONE wants to play the Bombers 22 times a year. Cept the Dockers.

The Tippers

It all tightened up this week – the Crows and Hawks results had a few wrong footed, and for some reason a majority of you thought the Paaaa were half-decent – stop listening to Mike Sheahan and you will all go much better. SIX tippers, however, managed a very handy 7 from 8, including some who did a little less that great last week… nice comeback ladies. At the other end Judge Dredd managed 3 from 8. Whoops.

Leading the pack overall are 5 likely people, including new comer Muchacho1, our European Correspondent the Asylum Seeker, our Adelaide lady 101, and the BlueBagger -Chris Judds Price Fixer.
In the side comp… well a few of you lost out by choosing the Crows (sorry), and we are now down to 40 people in with a show at what is now $30… Were you all nervy during the Cats game?

Round 3
Some challenging games folkettes… first up the Cats n the Pies. Are the Cats vulnerable? Tough game to pick. Most will pick the Cats but you would think the Pies supporters out there would have the testicular fortitude to back their own team. Actually, knowing them all, I know they don’t and won’t.

Saints will smash the Beagles and Bye Bye Bombers, here come the Blues. Lions n Swannies… hmmm tough game. Lets wait on Browny for that one, but in the battle of the Spoon, the Paaah should give the Dees a smackin across the loins.

Kangas n Hawks. Both coming off losses. Can the Hawks win a game in 2009? Ando? Gonna send me some more injury news this week? The Crows will give it to the Dockers despite it being in purple territory, and finally the Dogs will smash the Tiggers. Actually, the Ded Cert is a toughy this week….

Good luck all – any questions, email me!
