Round 6 - What A Yawn

Some weeks inspire. Some weeks do not. When the bottom six play in separate games chances are yer in for the latter.

So in a state of sickness I sat down on Saturday thinking ok... I won't be doing much today so I will watch the footy... I have missed it for a few weeks so it is time to immerse myself back into the greatest game on earth... And I am confronted with Essendon v the Lions and Geelong v the Deesgracefuls. F**K. Has there been a crappier round of football in the last twenty years? I think not. And has there been a worse ending to a round of footy than Eddie Maguire interviewing Ricky Nixon? Tool. Number. One.

So no surprises that the Bombers smashed the Lions. The Lions are only gonna stay out of the bottom 4 because the bottom 4 are so crap. The only surprise with the Cats n Dees was that the win was so small. And yes Selwood is in my dream team - as captain... selfish bastard.

Speaking of which - what do these names have in common? Selwood, Nic-nat, Bock, Ablett, Goodes. Yes that is right - they are all in my Dream Team. Unbelievable. What is the story? fark. And Goodsey out for 6 weeks!  Are the Swans as reliant on him as we all think?  He single-handedly won the game for them against the Hawks and nearly did against the Mighty's...

The Filthy Dirty Ones took their time but beat the Dogs - Brizza Harris seemingly back in form - and the Eagles made similarly hard work of the Roos.   Another 2 sets of opposition that will not make the 8 though.  Another yawn.   The Free-Kick-Eagles stay on top and dont look like losing it in the next few weeks despite injuries to key forwards.

The blues ended up spanking the Giants - although they seemed to make hard work of it for the first half and only ran over the top after Brogan and Setanta injured themselves.   Gibbs is turning into Mr Soft-C*ck - he was slightly touched in the side at one stage and fell to the ground in a way that would make an italian soccer player blush.  Ahhh it is going to be a disappointing year for the Judds when they fail. And they will.

OK I thought the Paps would be up for a battle against the Tiggers but they were pretty useless.   Actually they were awful.  I saw the stats on their 2nd quarter and I'm not sure if two teams were playing footy.  The Tiggers were only just better than pretty useless mind you.   The Lesser Riewoldt continues to show 2010 was an aberration in the same way that 2008 was an aberration with the Hawks.

Speaking of which... yes it appears we all bought it re the Hawks this year - 'it' being a furphy. Yes they have Buddy, yes they have Cyril (great highlights package although I'm not convinced he is the most consistent thing going around), but do they have enough to be there at the pointy end?  I am starting to think their midfield is a bit old... A bit slow...Hodgey's days are coming to a close...  Yes they beat the Sinners but koshitsme kicked 5 goals - that says a bit about their defence no?

There were two decent games though. First the Suns nearly pulled off the best win of the last few years when they went down to the purple ones by 7 points.   That was with no Bock (gone for the year damnit), no Ablett, no Rischitelli, no Swallow for a bit. Damnit the Suns deserved to win. That probably says as much about the Dockers as the Suns effort though.

And then of course the Crows managed to hold on against a fast finishing Swans and a rampant umpiring fraternity.  Is there some rule where if Goodesy is near the ball and doesn't get it, it has to be a free kick to him?  Buddy v Goodesy - Compare and Contrast in 500 words.   Still, we got home in the end...

In the tipping it is all pretty tight with yours truly staying LOYAL to the MIGHTIES but sadly picking the Paps to cost myself a perfect round.  While most others mistakenly thought the Swans had a prayer, so Kermie and Horseboy lead the way with a lot of people not far behind.

In the streak comp Owen Bailey still leads the way now on 18 wins, two clear of Mr Murray and The Falcon.  Plenty of time...

Round 7 picks it up a bit thankfully, kicking off with... Oh... Hmmm the Dees v Hawks. If only they merged back in th day eh?   I can smell an upset here... pffft no I can't.  Hawks by a percentage boost.

The Mighties host the Pussies the next day and you are all welcome to tip the Cats, but it is clear they aren't quite firing yet so I will happily tip the Crows as we continue the march to September! Boo-Yeah!

Next up is a battle between not only the two teams everyone picked for bottom, but also the two teams with major injury worries - the Giants v the Suns. The suns really should win given a twelve month headstart but the Giants may just get home... Interesting game. No seriously. Not sure who I will pick yet...

Richmond play the swans down in Melbourne and if the Tiggers have improved then they should be looking to win this game - especially now that Goodesy is out.   But will you tip them? It does go against the grain.

The Pies will smash the Lions in the Buckley Cup, but in the bombers v eagles game, once again if the Bombers are as good as they keep telling us, they have to beat the eagles who are without 5 of their forwards.   Much like the Tiggers, it's hard to pick the Hirds in a challenge.

The Roos will beat the doggies in a who cares battle while the Blues should easily account for the Sinners and the haze must beat the Paps if they are to have any chance of making the 8 this year. They will win but they won't make the 8.
