Round 9: Damnit! Damnit! Damnit

Man that was a good game! I am of course referring to the Richmond v Hawkers game on Saturday afternoon. $3.40 the Marics were paying and if you didn't get on board you have only yourself to blame cos Nostra-Horseboy told you the future in last weeks write up. The fact I didn't actually friggin tip them is an aside. DAMNIT! Yep I fell for the ole Daaaaave 'I am a winner either way' Cassell routine. What a load a paffffft.

The other DAMNIT was me looking at my tips halfway through the very obvious victory by the Sinners over the NoGoodes and seeing I had somehow tipped the Swans. What the huck was I thinking with that one? The Swans best player isnt just their best player, they are completely useless without him. Is there a team in the comp more reliant on one player than the Swans? [Tip: the answer is No]

But the biggest DAMNIT was of course seeing the Mighty Mighties lose to the other Pie-Scum. In what was a great game for the first three quarters, it was just gonna require a small break to go one way for the game to turn. That break turned out to be Keeffe's leg. Ype, by getting rid of that FREELOADER they were themselves all of a sudden FREED to run away with the game in the last quarter. How useless does he feel now? Seriously. Timeline: Before break. Close. Crows just not converting opportunities.  After break. Boom. Pies run away with a cuppla goals.  Tick Tick Boom.  Evolution is Action.  Keeffe you were the anchor tied to the feet of the Pies.  No wonder they aren't going to spend any time trying to get you back on the field this year.  Welcome to the Jungle Mudda!.

Elsewhere the Pussies continued to look a bit down but got home over the Doggies. The dogs are a team that won't go anywhere this year but they will lose with some grunt and should finish mid table.

Speaking of which, the Roos got home over the lions but not without trying for a repeat of last week. And the overrated Blues kept it close for 3 quarters with The Worst Team of The Century.  The Dees are the only team not talking about premierships this year but the Blues struggled to get away and that's not so good eh Falcs?

Worst Game of The Year honours went to the Derby. If you listed the worst 10 games of the last ten years they would all feature Ross Lyon as coach or assistant. Fact. At the start of the year I said the Dockers were an unknown proposition because of Lyon.  Now we know the Dockers experiment is already over. Bang.   The Eagles continue to roll on. Bang.

Surprisingly the Suns and Giants lost. YAWNS

Tippers
The Tiggers win stopped most people's chances of a perfect round, with 4 people tipping 8 - Chooka Trent, Judds and Gordos. Still leading the way despite a pathetic pittman of a performance (6 from 9 DAMNIT) is Horseboy. Speaking of Pittman, I actually graduated next to Pittman. Coming to a trivia night near you soon. In the streak mr Bailey continues his peasantish approach by just tipping the really obvious ones and letting the rest us fail with the odd misstep. Good work. That's what you can do when you are leading by a couple.

Round 10
First up is the mid-table clash of the century.  The Sinners v the Tiggers.  Just 4 weeks ago this was a battle to stay above Port, but all of a sudden both teams are up and running - literally.  The Sinners have some pace and the Tiggers are attacking like there's no tomorrow.  No suprise that the week I got bid of Baby Jack Riewoldt he suddenly kicked 6 goals.  Bastard.  It is still hard to pick the Tiggers - they have history.

The Hawks have a must-win game against the Roos.  I can't see them losing this one - too much on the line - And the Roos will descend further into the mire of mediocrity...  Meanwhile the Dockers have been copping it over in the west after their pathetic last cuppla weeks.  There will be a few changes in the team to play the Crows.  50/50 but of course I'll tip the Crows. But only because they will win.

Another tricky one is the Paps hosting the Blues.  What? Yes I know... THAT is how far the Blues have fallen.  This is actually a danger game for them.  Can't really tip the Tealscum but it wouldn't surprise and I would laugh.  Equally dangerous is Sydney playing the Doggies at the SCG on Sunday.  The Swans need to win, but the Doggies have that kind of dodgy game that may take it to the Swans.  The NoGoodes need to find some spark.  I suggest setting fire to LRT's helmet preferably while he is wearing it.  Swans should win.

In the obvious games Geelong to beat GWS, Piescum kill the Suns, Bombers the Heart of Peas, and Drugs to beat the Lions.

Round 8 - Thrills n Kills

Ahhh the Mighty Mighty's! I think we all know that there were a cuppola happy campers in this here tipping comp after the weekends SMASHING of the Bluebaggers on the weekend.   Loyalty has its own rewards - something WildJohnny may not know about after he picked the Pies over his supposedly beloved Cats.  Apparently it was a game of low skill but it was pretty close in the end and there is no excuse not to pick yer own team in a 50/50!  The ends does not justify the means my son!

There were two not so happy campers after the DEMOLITION that was the Crows v Blues - Chris Judds Chrome Dome and The Falcon. The latter drawn to question if Daaaaaave had picked the Blues before suggesting the game was an abortion... No no Mr Falcon... The game was a beautiful loving passionate embrace followed by conception that even Tony Abbott would approve of, and then a delightfully wonderful birth... mind you the Blues chances of a Top Two finish this year were indeed completely f'd by the end of it so I can see where you are coming from... And with Murphy joining Carazzo on the sidelines it should be an interesting month or so coming up.

That said, their next game is against the Dees and they are pure rubbish so they can pretty much rest the entire team. Can you really see the Dees beating anyone?  You could give the entire team a set of machete's and their attack still couldn't penetrate butter.  That was the worst game played by an AFL team since... hmm hang on... the Dees v the Cats last year...?  I can tell you right now that if they were playing the Suns or Giants I wouldn't be putting my money on the Dees...

No surprises with the West Drugged Beagles win over the Sinners or the Hawkers over the Dockers. The haze tried to bore everyone to death for the first quarter before falling over faster than Leroy Jetta in a zephyr.  Speaking of which, on Saturday night the Bombers and Tiggers played in the first meaningful Reamtime at the G ever, and scarily enough the Tiggers looked pretty handy. Without a doubt they are the best team out of the 8 (7) and could consider themselves unlucky to have had a tough draw.  The Bombers played well (ugh) and are still equal top of the table with the MIGHTY MIGHTY's and Druggo's.

How good was the Paps win? 32 points down, 13 minutes into the last quarter and BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG... Oh my! Yeah I hate that filthy bunch a ugg boot wearing scrubbers but it was pretty funny seeing the Roos die in the butt. What the hell happened? Schultz kicked 7 chiko rolls and left the shinboners with nothing but tears my friends... Damn that was funny :)  Seriously.

Oh, the Suns and Giants lost.  Apparently that means that the Doggies and Lions are back on the winning path.  Technically ok but come on...

Tipping
There were 7 tippers who managed 8 from 9's with Port and Adelaide's wins confounding them in equal amounts.  They rise up the table but Horseboy is still king of the county courtesy of a 7 (missing the first two games of the round).  Oh, and I have found the setting that changes the rankings to be overall position rather than the way it was... not 100% convinced on it either but it is probably better.

In the streak comp, Owen Bailey is taking the cautious approach - as he can.  He is leading on 22 in a row with Falcon and Tom Rosewall still alive on 19.  Don't forget that you do automatically restart if you get one wrong so don't stop putting your tips in.

Round 9
Some big games, some not so big games, but it's still a very open ladder at the moment so you wouldn't want to drop a game yer favorite for.  Witness the Cats v the Bulldogs.  Not sure who WildJohnny will go for but the Cats should win comfortably and if they don't, it's goodnight nurse.

If you are looking for an upset this week, my pick is the Tigers over the Hawks.  I think they are a red hot go and have picked em as well as putting a friendly tenner down at $3.40.  That's not a slight on the Hawks, I'm just thinking that the Tigers are due to convert effort into reward.  OK it is a slight on the Hawks.

The Paps travel to the Gold Coast in what should be the game of the season.  Two teams with nothing to play for at a ground where there will be no supporters.  Awesome.  The Paps were the Suns first victim last year but I can't see history repeating.  If it does, Mich Rucci will have that knife drawn again.   The Swans travel to Melbourne to play the Sinners.  If the Sinners win then they are back in with a shot at the eight.  If the Swans lose then their ability to play without Goodes is further questioned.  Ok, confirmed.  Hmmm.  Are the Saints playing better?  Flip a coin... when in doubt, go the home team... although they did play in the West on Sunday.  Shizer.  Tough call.

Ditto is the Saturday night blockbuster... the Crows re the Pies.  Pre-season the Crows walloped the Pies on their way to NAB Cup Glory.  Ahh the memories.  The Pies are going ok but lose the Fatman and Reid.  The Crows don't have Walker.  The bandwagon is starting to roll... remember the Eagles in 2011?  It's a game the Crows probably should win and that makes it dangerous.  Dangerfield to lead the Mighty's to victory... but those odds for the Pies look a bit too juicy to be real.

Not so tough is the Bombers against the Giants.  Apparently the Bombers had this labelled as a bye on their calender.  Well they weren't far wrong and as we head deeped into the year you can expect to see the losses get bigger.  100 points to the Bombouts.

In a game of who gives, the Roos host the Lions.  Whatever.  Carlton play the Dees.  Won't that be fun to watch?  And there is the Western Derby.  Darby.  Whatever it is.  Those wacky sandgropers.  The team thats down wins these games right?  Well I can't see that happening this time around and my money is on the Drugs to beat the Purple Haze.

Round 7: Giant Killers?

Ahhhh Richo You are a genius! A cuppla years back he sidled up to me at the local down in St Kilda and discussed his theory about taller goal posts causing an optical illusion that caused him to miss goals from 12 metres out straight in front. He said it was the Muller-Lyer Illusion. It may be true but when I told him he needed to take a good hard look at himself lest people make fun, he started to look all mopey.  But I still let him take a photo of us together under the proviso he didn't Facebook it. Typical - I found he LIED - he couldn't resist a lil Horseboy on his Facebook.

Well it came as no real surprise to me that he tried to float the idea with BT halfway through the second quarter of the Sinners and Sturt game on Monday night. RICHO! DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND SHUT UP! YOU SOUND LIKE YOU WERE WHEN YOU PLAYED THE GAME ie a JOKE!!

RICHO's nonsensical diatribe aside, the Sinners took it to Sturt and actually beat them. It aint often I enjoy seeing Milney take it to a team cos basically he is a knob, but on this occasion the Double Blues were just a bit too cocky and BANG... KAPOW... Get back in your box Bluebaggers and while yer at it, give us back our guernsey. The mighty Double Blues OWN THAT THING so piss off.

It has got pretty tight at the top eh?  It's starting to feel more like who isn't equal top of the table. Actually wipe that cos the Dees are definitely not at the top of the table. In fact they are playing so bad that right now I am guessing Guy McKenna can't wait to play them. Who picked the Dees for bottom? Surely there were some who knew that the old firm of Sheeeeeeeds and Choc would combine well with da yoof of Cornes, Brogan and Macdonald. Genius. Actually no one picked the Dees for bottom.   But the Suns had SFA in hand to take the Giants on, looking much like their coach did when I saw him finish off last years Gold Coast Marathon in the time it takes to finish a one day international. Embarrassing but that's what happens when yer borne with the nut of blood.

Daaaaave is of course pretty happy with his beloved bombers. He may even have tipped em. The fact the drug sniffers were without most of their forward line and nicnat was of no consequence in his mind because apparently the bombers have 12 injuries. Dave - the mini leaguers and assorted absolute rubbish on your injury list doesn't count. Still they won and won well. A bit like the Mighty Mighty's over the Cats! GO YOU GOOD THINGS! But yes the Cats ain't what they used to be... And Walker has now been rubbed out for NOTHING... Bluddy rubbish.

The Tigger bandwagon has started but lets be honest, the Swans without Goodes are indeed no good.  Nuff said.

The Roos showed they are an ordinary bunch of footballers which is no surprise. Over the last five years the Roos have been the team to cost me more tips than anyone - they win when they shouldn't and lose all they should win. Everyday I love them less and less.  They made the Dogs look good and that is no mean feat. A bit like the Power made the Dockers look good and the Lions made the Pies look like Premiership contenders.

Tipping
In the tipping 6 from 9 was the best anyone could do - 8 tippers getting that - and despite da Horseboy not being one of them he opened up a 2 point lead at the top - clear of 7 other contenders to the throne.

In the Streak comp Owen Bailey leads the way with 20 - that's pretty damn impressive! But then if you tip the Blues as a dead cert you get what you pay for... A dud.

Round 8
With it this tight in the top 14, it is safe to say that every game is important and no different this week. It starts with the Grand Final Replay - the Pies v the Cats. On current form you go the Pies but don't forget the pies played the lions while the Cats played the Mighty's - the Cats will show something and rebound cos if they don't then I really think it is the end of an era - lucky the Scott boy got a Premiership while he could.

The Paps host the Roos - two teams that could merge and still have no one show up. At home I am tipping the Paps but that just means the Roos will win. The Hawks play the Haze in tassie in another middle of the table clash.  The Dockers have had an extremely heavy travel schedule over the last few weeks - too much and the Hawks will win by 3-5 goals, while the Swans will win without Goodes. Cos they are playing the Dees.  Ditto the Dogs over the Suns.

Dreamtime at the G actually means something this year but the Dons should have too much - comfortably.  Tis a chance for the Tiggers to stand up and show us though.  The Crows will continue their run and the Blues will continue theirs, while the Giants must be a chance over the Lions - but would you pick em? No.

Finally the injury hit Beagles play against the born again Saints. Cant imagine the Sinners can manage it over west.

What Can't He Do?

Ahhh Vladamir Putin!  One thing he never said is "I have more chance of lining up on the ice for Russia in ice hockey than I do of rigging running for President again."

Round 6 - What A Yawn

Some weeks inspire. Some weeks do not. When the bottom six play in separate games chances are yer in for the latter.

So in a state of sickness I sat down on Saturday thinking ok... I won't be doing much today so I will watch the footy... I have missed it for a few weeks so it is time to immerse myself back into the greatest game on earth... And I am confronted with Essendon v the Lions and Geelong v the Deesgracefuls. F**K. Has there been a crappier round of football in the last twenty years? I think not. And has there been a worse ending to a round of footy than Eddie Maguire interviewing Ricky Nixon? Tool. Number. One.

So no surprises that the Bombers smashed the Lions. The Lions are only gonna stay out of the bottom 4 because the bottom 4 are so crap. The only surprise with the Cats n Dees was that the win was so small. And yes Selwood is in my dream team - as captain... selfish bastard.

Speaking of which - what do these names have in common? Selwood, Nic-nat, Bock, Ablett, Goodes. Yes that is right - they are all in my Dream Team. Unbelievable. What is the story? fark. And Goodsey out for 6 weeks!  Are the Swans as reliant on him as we all think?  He single-handedly won the game for them against the Hawks and nearly did against the Mighty's...

The Filthy Dirty Ones took their time but beat the Dogs - Brizza Harris seemingly back in form - and the Eagles made similarly hard work of the Roos.   Another 2 sets of opposition that will not make the 8 though.  Another yawn.   The Free-Kick-Eagles stay on top and dont look like losing it in the next few weeks despite injuries to key forwards.

The blues ended up spanking the Giants - although they seemed to make hard work of it for the first half and only ran over the top after Brogan and Setanta injured themselves.   Gibbs is turning into Mr Soft-C*ck - he was slightly touched in the side at one stage and fell to the ground in a way that would make an italian soccer player blush.  Ahhh it is going to be a disappointing year for the Judds when they fail. And they will.

OK I thought the Paps would be up for a battle against the Tiggers but they were pretty useless.   Actually they were awful.  I saw the stats on their 2nd quarter and I'm not sure if two teams were playing footy.  The Tiggers were only just better than pretty useless mind you.   The Lesser Riewoldt continues to show 2010 was an aberration in the same way that 2008 was an aberration with the Hawks.

Speaking of which... yes it appears we all bought it re the Hawks this year - 'it' being a furphy. Yes they have Buddy, yes they have Cyril (great highlights package although I'm not convinced he is the most consistent thing going around), but do they have enough to be there at the pointy end?  I am starting to think their midfield is a bit old... A bit slow...Hodgey's days are coming to a close...  Yes they beat the Sinners but koshitsme kicked 5 goals - that says a bit about their defence no?

There were two decent games though. First the Suns nearly pulled off the best win of the last few years when they went down to the purple ones by 7 points.   That was with no Bock (gone for the year damnit), no Ablett, no Rischitelli, no Swallow for a bit. Damnit the Suns deserved to win. That probably says as much about the Dockers as the Suns effort though.

And then of course the Crows managed to hold on against a fast finishing Swans and a rampant umpiring fraternity.  Is there some rule where if Goodesy is near the ball and doesn't get it, it has to be a free kick to him?  Buddy v Goodesy - Compare and Contrast in 500 words.   Still, we got home in the end...

In the tipping it is all pretty tight with yours truly staying LOYAL to the MIGHTIES but sadly picking the Paps to cost myself a perfect round.  While most others mistakenly thought the Swans had a prayer, so Kermie and Horseboy lead the way with a lot of people not far behind.

In the streak comp Owen Bailey still leads the way now on 18 wins, two clear of Mr Murray and The Falcon.  Plenty of time...

Round 7 picks it up a bit thankfully, kicking off with... Oh... Hmmm the Dees v Hawks. If only they merged back in th day eh?   I can smell an upset here... pffft no I can't.  Hawks by a percentage boost.

The Mighties host the Pussies the next day and you are all welcome to tip the Cats, but it is clear they aren't quite firing yet so I will happily tip the Crows as we continue the march to September! Boo-Yeah!

Next up is a battle between not only the two teams everyone picked for bottom, but also the two teams with major injury worries - the Giants v the Suns. The suns really should win given a twelve month headstart but the Giants may just get home... Interesting game. No seriously. Not sure who I will pick yet...

Richmond play the swans down in Melbourne and if the Tiggers have improved then they should be looking to win this game - especially now that Goodesy is out.   But will you tip them? It does go against the grain.

The Pies will smash the Lions in the Buckley Cup, but in the bombers v eagles game, once again if the Bombers are as good as they keep telling us, they have to beat the eagles who are without 5 of their forwards.   Much like the Tiggers, it's hard to pick the Hirds in a challenge.

The Roos will beat the doggies in a who cares battle while the Blues should easily account for the Sinners and the haze must beat the Paps if they are to have any chance of making the 8 this year. They will win but they won't make the 8.

BACK!

Yes I am.  Thanks to The Falcon for providing some stimulating ripartee in my absence.  While I was strolling around the US I stopped in at Boston to do the marathon and it was approximately 48C (yes, it is getting hotter every time I tell people).  Hence the world was exposed to Horseboy in a singlet.  This is not something that happens often so for your viewing pleasure here is some dude jumping up and down on the spot while listening to Pantera through imaginary headphones.

The internet is a wonderful things, and in my absence I heard that Dane Swan has been porking up!  My lord... seriously.  Mr Fatty has come to town.  Doesn't he realise how bad those tatts are going to look with a potbelly and saggy arms?  So while I was State-side (as they say) I visited the Arizona training camp that the Pies (who ate all tha) had been going to, and discovered exactly why he was so friggin phat.  It's cos he had been taking dietary tips off Simply Sara!  No... seriously... have a look at what goes into her macaroni salad and tell me if that doesn't set up some alarm bells...
Simply Sara's Macaroni Salad. Yum.  (it's youtube so won't work from within the bank...)

Ah yes.  I can now see who did indeed eat all the macaroni.

Anyway, round 6 this week and Falco has provided the winners, but realistically you are listening to a man sitting in THIRTEENTH, so if you listen to him, you deserve to finish on the scrapheap.  So lets get serious.  First up, yes, the Dogs are crap and the Pies should indeed cane them.  Despite Sara.  But I am privvy to the knowledge that Daaaaaaaave said there was no way that the Pies could lose.  So factor that one in if yer looking for an upset.

Then we have the Bombers.  Their bubble will burst, but the Lions are not going to be the ones to do it, no matter how much they may bleed.   Then there's the Cats n Dees... hmm... actually I can see where Falc was going on this... ok ok... he's right.  Except you will make a nice little return on yer money by putting a fifty on the Crows over the Swans at $4.  Get on board.  Ding Ding.

Ah  it's good to be back sniffin that leather!
