Round 9 Wrap
Greetings from Melbourne. Am sitting in while the Horseboy runs nearly 90k across Sth Africa. Not something any sane person would contemplate unless being chased by a hippo! We wish him well. He'll be catching the Socceroos over there too. Have a couple of Pimms for us LP!
The Nipster
Anyway - Round 9
Sadly for me (and the rest of the 50 odd-thousand), Round 9 started with a win for the Cats. Personally, was hoping the Pies would kick 20+ to tear the Cats a new klacker. However it was the Pies who were the subject of shame. Cats clearly the best in the comp. *Sniff.
The talk of Round 9 has just gotta be Barry Hall's sleeper hold. What a cracker. Headlines from Melbourne press suggesting it was so good, that the ump only stopped it with a three count. Not totally an unexpected reaction from a bloke doing up his shoelace - methinks? Dogs by plenty (over North).
Swans decimated by injury in their loss to Freo. That has the Purple Haze ending a pretty long losing streak at the SCG. Bradshaw and Kennelly both have knee issues. This equals supercoach problems. Expect Goodes to be used everywhere next week. Before slotting him into your side - check the Horseboy's team. It appears he is the curse of many. If he plays for The Horseboy Double B's - dont go near him.
Didn't see the Dees beat the Power. Apparently all too easy for the Dirty's until the last quarter. Power had a fair crack but no chocolates. Speaking of which, their coach none too pleased with what he reckoned was only 30mins of footy from the Paps. Good to see em loose by a point if you ask me. *Sniff (again).
Dreamtime at the G - ended as all expected for the Tiges. Yellow and black are stuffed! No question. Reiwoldt kicked 6 (pretty handy actually) but David Hille showed how having a recognised ruckman may actually help at AFL level. Bombers too quick and too good.
Crows continued the pain for the Lions. That's 5 on the trot for Brissy. Crows uncovered a few handy players. Taylor Walker had his best game for the pride of SA. From the highlights McLeod looked like he was back in 1997. Big test against the Sainters this week!
Hawks got over the Blues pretty easy. Looks like the Hawks return to form has coincided with the return of about half its team. Burgoyne is racking up some very nice numbers and to be honest any team with Buddy Franklin and Luke Hodge is always gonna be handy!
Eagles and Saints finished out the round. Went as expected. Saints midfield as good as any running around.
Looking ahead you'd think that the Dogs, Cats, Paps, Pies, Sainters, Hawks, Blues and Freo would start favorites for Round 10. MOTR likely to be Bombers v Dogs. Big Bad Bustling likely to miss at least 5 and the Bombers have got Ryder and Hille playing pretty solid footy.
...hopefully Brown and Fevola both have O.P and have to miss a week. Go Pies!

Round 8: I'm Outta Here
That's right! You heard me! There's only so much passion I can muster! Did you actually SEE the Crows in that third quarter? It made Pittman look less than Pathetic. Sure we came back to only lose by 2 kicks but c'mon!!!!
Sure it's ok for Paps supporters - they are used to failure. Success is getting the dole cheque through on time. Pies supporters? One premiership in 51 years speaks volumes. And Tigers supporters would be devastated that they had to change their September holiday plans if success smacked em in the face and they suddenly finished 8th. But as a Loyal Crows Supporter who just tipped 2 from 8... well self-flagellation appears to be the order of the day and I am off to punish myself in South Africa with 89km of pleasure. If yer feeling frisky apparently they provide reasonable updates on the website - the run is on the 30th May but I will be adios next Sunday so The Nipster is providing some blog lovin to you all.
Words of advice... He has been dealt a couple of blows - Blood Nutted AND a Pies Supporter. And it is indeed true that he took a cue from Benny Cousins and had "Life is Crewl" tattooed across his stomach.
So. Two from 8. I changed my tips about 6 times and it paid off in spades. I put money on the Cats/Sinners double (paying $1.90) and that paid off in spades. It's all good. Yes the Pies beat the Dockers. Not unexpected - a 50/50 in every sense. And I am prepared to take the optimism that was the Swans over the Doggies. And maybe i have underestimated the Blues. Or briefly overestimated the Paaaaaaaaah (not sure what I was thinking there). And Loyalty loses me the Crows tip. But the Beagles beating the Dees and the Bombers beating the Sinners? Hmmmm. That's just WRONG.
The Ladder
So the knockout is down to 3 - Pavsthaman bowed out due to loyalty... and with $90 on the line, it is getting interesting. One game to pick from... Sydney v Fremantle... Get to it! The next 4 weeks are on the sidebar... if it is finished prior to my return then the side comp will be on hold until then :)
In the tipping itself, Syneeeeeee's loyalty was the only thing that cost him a perfect 8 from 8 and the outright lead, but PavPaaaa still leads the pack, one clear of Mr Syneeeee, D Master and bjak.
Round 9
You all know the Crows will beat the Lions and the Blues beat the Hawks, but the upset will be when St Kilda lose again... ouch...
Good luck all - see you in 4 weeks time!

Round 9
Another MOTR on the Friday night... the Pies n Cats. If the Pies win this then they are truly contenders, and Mr Nips will be doing more than salivating over his keyboard as he writes to you next week. I'll tip the Cats but thats just hatred.
The Roos are obviously very good having just beaten the Crows, but the Doggies are on the way back and will be too good, while I reckons the Swans will give Freo their 2nd loss in a row. The Tigers will get their first win up over the Bombers, who are shit despite beating the Sinners, and the Dees will leave Pav wishing he was on his way to Saffa and lining up for 89k of pleasure himself...You all know the Crows will beat the Lions and the Blues beat the Hawks, but the upset will be when St Kilda lose again... ouch...
Good luck all - see you in 4 weeks time!

Round 7... It Goes On... and On...
GO YOU CROWS!
You know what I find annoying? Plagiarism. As my good friend Aelius Donatus once said, "Perish those who said our good things before we did." I looked on the Oztips website tonight and Pavpaaaa just RIPS me off before I've even written a thing. "It was an amazing win by the crows, awe inspiring stuff to brush aside Richmond in the last quarter. A tough and dire encounter until then with both sides playing an amazingly high standard of football to keep to keep the scores so low for 3 quarters. But then, once the crows lost their best player to injury (who doesn't like a Stiffy?), they fought for his memory and rolled over the top of the mighty Richmond Football Club to the victorious cries of all the mothers in the crowd... "
Some people probably think he is being a touch facetious - but I am INSPIRED! He then went on to talk about 21,000 empty seats though and that gets my goat. The Paps get a cuppla wins up when they expected precisely ZERO from the year, and all of a sudden they start bleating. It's like the kiwi's and Australia. They all know they aren't really good enough, but every now and again they jag a victory and it's all so exciting. CROWDS?? The Paps cover up 80% of the stadium with black flags cos they know they'll never get more than 21,000 people to a game. Still, well may he chuckle, cos on the injury front, over in Papsmear land, the Power had some good news - Tredrea out for 10 - 12 weeks. Good news? Well where were the Paps when he went off in the second quarter? BEHIND. Where were they 2.5 quarters later? AHEAD. These are the kind of sums even a Pies supporter could calculate. Too old. Too slow. Move on. And when he did, the Bombers had no answers... all of a sudden they couldn't rely on Fletcher to cover some crappy 3rd stringer as per usual. No, he had to man up. Game over.
Fletch is the most OVER rated footballer in the game over the last decade. I know it's been said, but how does a full back get rated decent if they never play (a) full back and (b) on a decent player? Some other poor sausage has to take on Fev n Brown while Fletcher plays on some peasant and gets kudos for running off him occasionally, sticking that inspector gadget leg out to trip them if they look like getting away, and watching them leak more goals than the 20/20 summit had stupid ideas. That was 900 by the way. Matty Knights is still Coach of the Century though. Inspirational comment after the game... "sometimes you just have to mature as a team..." Ahhh thanks Matty - only sometimes. Excellent stuff. Actually I'm pissed off. Daaaaave "I'm a bombers supporter but they are rubbish and I don't tip them even in 50/50 games at home" Cassell told me the Bombers would lose, and I didn't believe him. But then again why would I? He reckons they'll lose every week. To be fair he is usually right.
In a ripper of a game, the Dees - sporting a lovely hue of pink - pushed the Doggies right to the limit on Friday night. It helped that the Dees were wearing the same colour as the umps. Big Bad Bloody Useless Barry Hall continues to do NOTHING on the field. Can't kick goals - total waste of time in my dream team - and can't kick heads. TOUGHEN UP BAZ!!! YOU ARE SHT! GO THE BIFF!! 7 people picked baz to lose the plot in round 8 against his old friends at the Swans, and I hope yer all right cos he is WASTING MY TIME with his girly approach to the game at the moment. Clearly without BAM BAM BAM in his head, he lacks PASSION for the game. The Dogs are deadset lucky to be in the 8 and if the Crows had won 3 more games they would be ahead of them by now. VERY lucky.
Speaking of lucky, those Beagles are lucky. Lucky they played the Hawks. Cos the Beagles are crap but the Hawks are crapper. As in Thomas. Actually, having just looked up crap in the dictionary, it appears that while it IS a synonym for Fletcher, it is also derived NOT from Thomas Crapper - the popular mythic origin of the word - but from the dutch crappen - to snap one off - and the french crappa - errr... poo. No idea why they needed two words to get crap when Fletch is enough.
Those Hawks though eh? I would hate to support a team that hadn't won a game in the last 6 weeks. You must be crappen crappa. I've always said that yer only as good as yer last game. But at least you have that sedate President Kennett. The only reason he took the role was cos he wanted to be President of SOMEthing.
One thing I hate to talk about at the moment is the rather handy form of the Pies.
Ablett turned on a master class against the Swans. He was unbelievable. They sought him here, they sought him there, they sought that bald bstard everywhere. Chappers wasn't too bad either. The Swans had no answers and their easy start to the season is over. Cos lets look at it - they played the Saints - who are currently getting PUMPED by the Blues. Dzzzt. They beat Brissy with no defence. Dzzzt. They beat the Beagles who have no defence, midfield or attack. Dzzzt. They beat North Melbourne who couldn't beat meat. Dzzzt. They beat Richmond who admittedly did push the Crows so maybe they are slightly credible but not back then I'm sure. Dzzzt. And in their only really worthy victory of the year, they beat the Crows, who were missing 43 players with injury at the time. On the other hand, the Cats are looking solid. Very.
Freo eh? Who woulda thunk it? Well, I picked em but i wouldn't have picked em to be equal top. Lovely stuff. And lets hope they don't get an injury to Sandilands, lest they drop like a Melbourne Storm to the bottom of the ladder.
The Ladder
Well I believe there were some 7's this week - not a bad effort given the Blues upset. And what it does do is put that dirty rotten Port supporter PavPaaaaa into the lead. He timed his rant well!
In the side comp we are down to 4 people, with Fava Beans picking the Hawks. Into Round 8 and it's $80 up for grabs... Lets get it out the way early and put it on the Dockers / Pies games... good luck with that one!
Round 8
It starts with a cracker. The Dockers n Pies. Wow. The Dockers are impressing and the Pies are solid as. No surprises that neither team has an injury list. These grapes are sour. They tasted a lot better when they were just distributed to Hawks supporters.
The Dogs host the Swans and Big Bad Barry will have to contend with the might of LRT. Bcubed will be masturbating all week thinking about this one but his load will be all for nothing cos the Swans are better than the Dogs at the moment - home or away.
While the Dees will beat the Eagles, the Crows will continue their amazing winning streak by rubbing the Roos face in it. They are now an unstoppable force. You know it.
The Lions have nothing at the moment. They peaked three weeks ago and they are on the way DOWN. The Cats will bury them. Then urinate on their graves. But the Tigers and Hawks... hmmm... Could this be the Tigers first win for the year? MadJacob? What say you? As you trek around South America to avoid your 7th loss in a row. The Tigers could be the loss you had to have.
Carlton are coming off an impressive win over the Saints but have shown they can't win two in a row. The Paps are coming off an unimpressive win over the Bombouts but have shown they can't win two in a row. Draw anyone?
And the Saints will beat the Bombers by 15 goals.

Round 6: Bedknobs and Bloodnuts
Today I have discovered 2 things.
1. Despite popular opinion, distance is NOT a linear proposition. Evidence? The 8km at the end of a 50km run is definitely further than 8km at the start of a 50km run.
2. Bloodnuts have a genetic advantage in sport. I swear every 2nd runner today had Ranga flowing free through their veins. Quite disturbing.
So how do they get this advantage? Well, it has got to be that ANGRY gene that permeates their body. And can you blame them? It's like hearing for a blind man - things have to improve to compensate. That disturbing shock of red has cursed them from birth and thus their legs need to develop to compensate for their disabilities (lets be honest - red hair can be the least of the problems for some of these 'people').
Evidence? Cameron Ling anyone? Here is a man so ugly and red that his own parents changed their names. And yet he garners respect on the footy field because he has nothing to lose. You or I wouldn't dare put our beautiful faces into the bottom of a pack, but Ling? The bigger the facial scarring, the better the surgery. BRING IT ON he says.
But back to the run because I have no interest in footy for some reason. It did seem that every second runner was either disgracefully red or 'strawberry blonde' - that greatest of misnomers for a bloodnut. I spent about 44k running with a gal with a cap on and it was only 35k in, as I noticed and commented on the large contingent of bloodnuts infesting the event, that I realised she too had a hint of bloodnut under that cap. She chose to call it 'strawberry blonde' too, but I didn't let her get away with it, and she didn't dismiss the factor as significant. Indeed, despite us being passed by a walker (yes... seriously... those bastards are FAST!) she went on to win the ladies division of the Ultra (I beat her of course). More proof if ever you needed one. In second and third were brunettes. Not a blonde to be seen. You see? Society deems the blonde need do no more. Evolution of the ranga-est.
Lingy led his team to victory of the hapless Tigers. 108 points. You would think being picked by the Tiges would be the equivalent of being a bloodnut - it should inspire all sorts of anger. But it ain't helping them. Meanwhile on friday night the Doogies led for all but about 6 minutes in their low scoring effort against the Sinners. Of course it was the 6 at the end and that seems to matter for some reason (a bit like that 8k at the end of a run). This was the first time EVER that a game at Etishadmypants Stadium had an aggregate score under 100 points, but in that last 8 minutes the Sinner ran amok and stole the game from the Doggies, who fall out of the 8. Cooney. Another bloodnut. Is Barry Hall a bloodnut? I've never seen his hair. But it was great to see some sparks there... the odd facial touch here, the odd 'wasn't me' there. These are the cracks that will lead to a suspension and no amount of ginger justice will stop it.
The Crows finally showed something in a game this year apart from a willingness to handball into danger, and a decent game it made. Although I was watching in a pub in canberra with no sound on. It makes a difference having a cuppla player back in the backline. Imagine what it will be like when we don't have 13 injuries. Anyway, the Paps won - waltzed away in the last quarter actually. 6 games without a win... Thank god we play the Tigers this week!!!! Even the Cats can beat them!
The Dees fairytale was proven a fallacy (not a phallus, see?) as the Roos beat em. They never really looked in trouble, and Bradshaw's 6 goals against his old team proved the difference as the Swans ran out winners by 20 points. It was a tough game but the Swans keep top position - glad they are my new favorite team.
The Bombers. Oh lord I can see Dave's face now. It looks a little like Bert Newton after a few drinks. Matthew Knights will be deemed a genius by the fella. "Give Him Another Contract Extension" he'll be saying. Of course he didn't pick em. The Hawks... well they have lost 5 in a row and despite being in great company - 1 game up on the Mighty Mighty's - I am guessing that the Hawks supporters amongst you - line in the sand, madjakob - will be slightly concerned.
And them Blues... well they stayed pretty close the the Pies... until I got home... and then BANG. All over. Simple.
The Ladder
Leading the way this week was bjak with a rather handy full house. The great part is he picked the games a few weeks ago as he rumbles around the world on yet another trek, and despite being a Crows supporter he picked the Paps... THIS IS HERESY! You will find your passport revoked on re-entry. The 8 from 8 gives him a bonus point and that puts him into the lead along with a few others... it's getting tight at the top. Yep along with bjac, the D Master continues to lead, along with a pair of schafers, a junkie and a pap. Too easy. Apparently.
IN the side comp sadly young Beccle picked the Hawks. Whoops. And then there were 5. Battling for $70 now. It's getting worthy. ONE GAME TO PICK FROM - Eagles v Hawks. Simple.
Round 7
I have been looking forward to round 7 for a few weeks now... why? The Crows play the Tigers. PLEASE GIVE US A WIN!!!! But that aside there are some great games on. It starts on friday night with the Dees n Dogs. 4 weeks ago this was a bye, but right now, despite the odds I am seeing... well I reckon the Dees are a chance. Dunno if I will back em but they are a chance.
The Bombers host the Power on Saturday and we all know the history of teams that have played the Crows the week before eh? They WIN! Well I am not sure on this one. The Bombers are crap. The Paps... well they aren't great are they? Tough pick. And you can add the Eagles/Hawks to the same category. Damnit do i have to tip this week?
The Pies will smash the Roos, but the Lions n Dockers... well the Dockers are playing good footy but after that derby... a few injuries maybe? Let's wait n see. Again. The Cats n Swans? This is a test and I'm not sure if the Swans will pass. But they are playing good footy and I'm not sure the Cats are really. Finally the Saints and Blues. The Blues beat the Cats then got pumped but the Pies, but the Saints are only just getting on eh? Hmmm.. Lets see....
Round 5: Beaver Fever
OK hands up who DOESN'T have Beaver Fever! The whole WORLD has been taken over by the need to see da young Beaver, and 5000 screaming hyperventilating 12yo girls answered the call. I was so taken by the fever of the Beaver that I have spent all afternoon investigating the phenomenon that is the Young Beaver, and having seen da Beaver in action I can see why there is such a desire for it. Sure the Beaver is young. But the pain I hear in the Beaver is from the Heart. This is For Real.
"My first love broke my heart for the first time/And I was like/Baby, baby, baby, ooooh/I thought you'd always be mine"
That, my friends, is Gold. That is the ache of a sore Beaver.
Now I know you reckon that once the Beaver is old it will lose its appeal - but in my book that just means the Beaver will be more experienced. Just look at New Kids On The Block. The only mistake they made was going radical and changing their name to NKOTB (they weren't KIDS you know...). They hung tough. But were they tough enough?
'Upset' didn't just relate to the kiddies waiting for Beaver however. Nup, Round 5 featured a lot of upset. Yep, the Catters fell for the ole 'we played the Crows last week' routine when they lost to the Blues. As I predicted! That means that every week, the Crows have played teams in red hot form. Evidence again?
Round 1. Dockers. Equal Top. BANG.
Round 2. Swans. Equal Top. BANG.
Round 3. Dees. Haven't lost since. BANG.
Round 4. Carlton. Beats 2009 Premiers. BANG.
Round 5. Doggies. Equal 2010 Faves. BANG.
Do the Crows just happen to have the hardest draw in the Comp? WE HAVE BEEN TARGETED BY THE AFL!!! *sighs* This kind of harassment makes what the poor innocent Storm have gone through look positively benign.
Speaking of which, I for one totally back Bellamy's comments that you cannot take away the Storms INTEGRITY. Sure they RORTED the system but what has that got to do with INTEGRITY? Sure they CHEATED by paying players more than the system allowed and therefore were able to field a stronger team than others but they did it with INTEGRITY. It is all a plot by the NRL to get rid of them. They play with too MUCH integrity THATS the problem. Anyway it wouldn't happen in the AFL. Essendon Premiership anyone?
So back to a mans game. Did I mention upsets? This week 50 out of 60 tippers picked exactly the same teams. It is this kind of MOB mentality that gets rockin gigs by the Beaver CANCELLED. One 12yo screams for the Beaver and 4,999 others do likewise. As that young gal said... 'the police were so... like... slack...'. RIGHT ON SISTER! Some 12yo's travelled from like... Perth. Who are these... like... 12yo's? They travelled like... from PERTH??? They have enough money to travel like... from PERTH... to see the Beaver? Whatever. These are the kind of people that all tipped the same teams this week and it is no wonder you all got 4 out of 8. Think OUTSIDE the square for ONCE in yer lives. COME ON! You are the kind of people that thought putting $5 on the 8 from 8 was a dead cert. I have SEEN your type.
So the Swans kept winning, and indeed they now rise to the top of the crop, but the big mover was the Dees. The DEES! Stick THAT on bluddy utube. Beaver THAT in yer bluddy utube. To be honest the Dees were always going to win. And you know how I know? Because Dave Cassell put money on the Lions. Of course he didn't put his own money on them - he put other peoples money on them. Welcome home Dave. We missed you. 8 from 8 last week when it means nothing to us? Yeah no probs. This week when yer putting OUR money on it, DDDZZZZZZZZT. He also told us that the Bombers would win. But he didn't wanna pick em. HE is a man of means and a means of a man.
Rather than listen to Dave I decided to speak to the Beaver himself and he said the Paps would beat the crap out of the Sinners and the Roos would beat the Hawkers. Which just goes to show that if you got more than 4 this week you have no idea about tipping.
The Ladder
The Blue Chimp and Bampo both picked 6 from 8 this week - not a bad effort in a tough week. Overall though it is Horseboy's Nemesis at the top of the table. I can just see his face now as he gets an early win in the little races of life, sure he thinks he is smart but it won't be long before he gets an injury and is never seen again. On yer Bike Nemesis! Also up there is that dirty stinkin Port Supporter Once Great and Kermitt the Frog. Drive fer show, putt fer dough I say!
Oh and in the side comp the 6 folk are still in it this week and we jackpot to $60. Round 6 you will need to tip from one of the Saturday games.
Round 6
Gotta say this is a huge week of footy. 7 out of the 8 could go either way and given my mediocre position on the table I have deferred to The Beaver for his advice on who will win.
He said, and I quote...
Baby, baby, baby ooh
Like
Baby, baby, baby noo
Like
Baby, baby, baby ohh
He knows $hit. But what I do know is that the Sinners n Doggies is gonna be a heaving do-do of a game and worth staying in for - tough tough tough. While the Rooos n Deees is also bluddy tough. Throw in the showdown where the Crows will smash the Paps and mix in a Derby where the Beagles will stir cos you always go the underdogs in these games and maybe Baby Baby oooh the Beaver is onto something.

The Hawks n Bombers... jeez you can't back the Bombers can you? Dave? No, he can't. They are rubbish. But the Swans n Lions will be a big game - home town will help decide that one and keep the Swans on top for another week. The Blues n Pies is ANOTHER tough one after the Blues job on the Cats... but the Pies will keep winning cos the Blues really aren't that good, and in the only easy pick of the round, the Cats will get over the Tigers by 100 points.
Baby Baby Baby ohhhhhh.

All The World Is A Stage...
Who would have thought Kane Cornes was a world class diver? Well... most of us I guess...
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/port-adelaides-kane-cornes-investigated-for-diving/story-e6frf9jf-1225856400314?from=public_rss
Absolute JOKE. Kane Cornes, you are an embarrassment to your Father, you are an embarrassment to your brother.... ok - just your father. But let's be honest, he didn't expect much of you - he called you 'Kane' fer farks sake. Who does that to a son that they think they are going to love?????

Round 4: Joy. Joy. Joy.
Do I need to say anything on THAT topic?
Before this weekend I had been able to say that we lost to the Dockers who are playing great footy. We lost to Sydney who could easily be unbeaten and are playing good footy. But that's where wishful thinking becomes a little fantasy cos while I can say the Dees are clearly improving (they did after all beat the Mighty Crows and the Tenacious Tigers)... there is NO way I will say that the Blues are any good. And they PUMPED us. Get. F.
Of course the Hapless Paps were also pumped but at least that was by the best team of the last 3 years. 95 points is a bit of a train wreck though eh? 11 goals in the third quarter is more than the Crows have kicked in Rounds 1-4. Combined. *sighs* It's lucky this is all done on a computer cos the ink would be running under the weight of my tears if this was on paper. 24 wins in a row at home to the Cats. That's some home ground domination. Yes, the last time they lost there was to da Paps but I think we can safely say they have overcome any mental scarring since then.
As expected, Master of The World Is Against Us Even If I Did Call That Annoying Little Rpist a Rpist and Then Lied and Said I Didn't But How Dare They, managed to get the Pies up against a tired looking Hawks. But the result that kinda surprised me was the Lions over the Dogs. Fev put $5000 on the Lions apparently and they - along with St Kilda - are the only unbeatens left in the comp.
The Bombers put together a 4 quarter performance against the Eagles - they played equally sht for the entire game. Must say that is better than showing 8 minute spurts of excitement followed by 24 of shizer. Crowsfc's texting bill must be phenomenal. Ah well... at least I have the Swans...
The Ladder
6 people got the full house this week. Including my Nemesis... hmmm. Cocky b'stard. Typical Blues Supporter. Anyway, Kermit's 9 pointer puts her equal tip with Once Great. nice work!
In the side comp... down to 6 cos the Paulverisor chose a sunday game... titch titch... and given all the games are pretty much easy picks (60x9 pointers this week!) you can choose from any game... Jackpot up to $50.
Round 5
Oh the pain it lingers. And I have to admit that Round 5, 2010 is the first time in quite a while that I will have to back The Opposition... The Western Bulldogs will rebound from their loss to the Lions and spank us. Do you know how much it hurts to say that?
My new team Sydney will give the Eagles a reaming but a very interesting game will be the Dees and Lions. Only percentage keeps the Dees from the 8. Oh lordy I can smell -4 points coming at the end of this season for horseboy. I think Fev n Browny will have too much body strength for the juniors down at Dee land and Brissy will remain undefeated. As will The Sinners who will do the job on the Paps.
It's hard to see the Pies, Dockers and Hawks losing, but one stat no one has pointed to is that each team that has beaten the Crows, has won the following week. They must get a lot of confidence out of beating such a solid team. For that reason you can expect the Blues to beat Geelong. Not.

Those Mighty Dees!
The weirdest thing happened on my way to Tips-Central this morning... I discovered that about half of you obviously thought the Sydney/Tigers game was on Sunday not Saturday... well yer all idiots and pay the price - you had to pick a SUNDAY game for the knockout comp ladies... where is the communication?? You know the strangest part of it though? Lady Horseboy picked the Swans as her cert too! Never let it be said that there are favours given here!!!! (ps it is always written on the right hand side of the blog AND on the oztips site...)
This week the few left in the comp have to pick from Saturday's games... See it's not that hard is it?
Ahhh footy. You know, despite the Crows effort leading me to a point where Metallica's "Some Kind of Monster - the Short Version" sums up my feelings... and despite the Crows losing yet another 4 players to injury (Tippett, Hentchell, Dangerfield and Bock all gone... nice), the most memorable part of the round definitely comes from the Pies camp.
Yep, at quarter time, The Nipster was down in the huddle taking some time out from his Nanna Nap, and he assures me that Micky Mouse - that self-proclaimed doyen of coaches - launched into everyones favorite help-yourselfer Steven Milne and called him a 'f-ing rapist' - as opposed to the other type. To assist (that is what assistant coaches do), Licca followed it up with a request to 'meet in the carpark'. Was this some kind of gay reference? Have the Pink Pies made a resurgence in 2010? COME ON BOYS!!! Licca, you are a clown. If Warney was commentating he would be saying 'Can't Play, Can't Coach'. Move on.
Anyway, we all know you only do the carpark thing in Adelaide outside a pub - not a footy ground. This is typical of the Pies mentality though - always following, never leading. Following on in his Coaches footsteps, Maxwell said the Sinners players were all crybaby's. Which again brings us back to Licca... Yep, they even have their own Facebook website called 'Watching Collingwood Cry' - with 14,000 friends!!! Gold.
Anyway, when Milney isn't helping himself to a sleeping gal (she was asking for it), or Montagna riding shotgun, or Riewoldt crying to the world, they tend to play pretty good footy and they gave the Pies a spanking even missing Tearwoldt (out for two months, and yes he is in my dream team...). With the Pies only scoring 9 points after half-time I was going to be THRILLED this weekend even if the Crows only won by 5 goals! BRING IT ON!
In one of the most courageous comebacks you will ever see, Surjan made it back on the field for the Paps. The massive hit he took last week, and the delayed concussion - the kind that only comes on when you are told to sit down and waste time I mean recover - makes him my gutsiest player of the week. Awesome effort. Sadly for him the Lions were too good for them. My lordy, how good was this weekend gonna be - even if the Crows only won by 5 goals!
Meanwhile the Roos beat the Beagles. Man, I picked that one and I suggested that at $1.90 this was easily the best money-making option this round, but redhotchili had other preferences... yep, he thought the Cats were good value at $1.50... as The Hives once said... 'Hate to Say I Told You So...' (rubbish - I love it). Anyway, Harvey racked up a zillion possessions and had a 7 bounce run down the wing and through the centre only to have the ball scrape the post... damnit. Still, with the Crows getting their first win on the board I knew I would be a happy man come sunday...
On Saturday night the Swans played against... well I dunno. Was there even an opposition there? Actually there was and his name was LRT. The worlds worst footballer. The highlight of the night for me was watching him wrestle a Tigers player out of the way to let a goal through. For the Tigers. He is Pure Gold. LRT is the defenders defender. A throwback to 1982. When I was playing under 12's. I reckon I played like LRT. But I probably ran more. The thing was, I was 11 at the time and playing 3rds. Anyway, the Swans caned the LRTigers and when i saw the Bombers (I picked em) got up against the Blues (yes, Daaave being the loyal Bombers man he is, picked the Blues), I just knew that this was my weekend...
Apparently there was some footy played sunday although what I saw was a JOKE. And that was just the Dogs win over the Hawkers. But beyond that, the Dockers managed 3 wins in the first three games of the season. Ever. That is at the same time that their brethren Beagles have lost the first 3 for the first time since 1989! Yep, those Dockers... to take some sarcastic lines from Once Great and make em true... maybe the Crows have played the best sides of 2010 already? Dockers... unbeaten... Sydney... could easily be 3-0... Melbourne... should be 2-1 (although they got the best of some friggen shonky umpiring - 4 decisions in 3 minutes when the game was in the balance... nope I won't even mention them... MAGGOTS!)...
The Ladder
Two 7 from 8's this week with Once Great and Pavsthaman jumping up the ladder to be second and first respectively, while Pavpaaaaa is equal 2nd with the OG. I think I will change my name to Pavhorseboy. In the Gayfamily battles it's good to see that the acorns have been flung FAR from the tree... the 3 amigos (D Master, LukeTheCuteOne and Maddzy) all well ahead of Damien (PizeRule)... excellent work!
As said, 7 left in the side comp - pick from saturday's games this time - $40 jackpot.
Round 4
You mean there is more? Faaark. In the games thats matter, the Pies play the Hawks. I will not make a call on this one until I see the injury toll. Up at the Gabba the Lions face their biggest test so far against the Doggies. I reckons home ground advantage will be the deciding factor, but in the space of 2 weeks, the surprise Match of the Round has to be the Sinners v Freo!!!! Unbelievable! NO Tearwolt and the Purple ones are in some kinda form. Still, yet again you gotta say that the homeground advantage should be enough eh?
Indeed, homeground is a biggie for the Coasters too - Dave may be back on board this week but the Beagles will beat em over at the Subi, and the 12 Crows players left will be solid for the Blues... The Cats will bounce back and beat the Paaaah by a lazy 119 points, while the Roos v Roos down in Roos will be quite Roosish. Tough pick actually - I'll tip Paul Roos. As for the Dees n Tigers - have you seen how good those Dees are? FAAAAAAARK!
FAAAAAAARK!

Round 2: The Pain
Apparently as we grow older, we need to have a Nanna Nap in the arvo. I have this on good authority from The Nipster who has taken to the Nanna Nap like a Pies Supporter to an Umpy who has awarded a 50m against Maxwell. Indeed they are now calling it the Nipsta-Nap.
The NNap can be the only explanation for the Crows effort agains the Swans on Sunday... My lordy they were that bad that they HAD to be asleep. A team of Nanna Nappers may be fine when the games are in the evening, but when it's a Sunday arvo at yer home ground... WAKE UP JEFF!!!! If nothing else it answers the question from last week - were the Dockers good or the Crows bad? A tick to the latter my friends. I dunno what is going on but you know you are in trouble when LRT out-marks you, and between tears I do believe I saw that happen. My spies at the ground - Judge Dredd and Fava Beans - said it was WORSE than that.... the scoreline was flatting... oh my... Message to Mr Craig - GET A PLAN!!!
The Nips n the Crows weren't the only ones Nanna-Napping though. The Power's Jacop Surjan had a bit of a Nanna nap while the Beagles were making a comeback in the last quarter Saturday night... how did it go again? Surjan's down after laying a tackle. He's up. He's walking back to defence. The little annoying Paps runner comes out and tells him that there is time to be wasted here and gets him to lie down on the ground for a Nanna Nap while they bring out the stretcher... Time wasted, Paps re-organise themselves while waiting, stopping the run that the Beagles had... Paps win... he's up again and running into the centre of the ground to celebrate... ahhh the Paps... gotta luv em.
How bout them Dees? I think they caught the Pies having a Nanna Nap of their own. I watched the first 10 minutes of the Pies/Dees game and the Dees were on top! How good was that? Well... not so good if you are a Crows supporter hoping for an easy win in Round 3. But at the time it was bluddy good! Just think of all those people in the side comp who picked the Pies as their certainty! BANG! GONE! hmmm. Sadly the Dees couldn't hold on, and with just four minutes on the clock the Pies took the lead and managed to keep it. 1 point to the bad guys.
On thursday night the Bears n Blues played out the Fev Cup. Seven goals to JB (not Fev) proved to be the difference. How good is he? Unbelievable. Tippet, please watch and learn. At AirConditioned Stadium the Bombers were hosting the Dockers. It was all about Lloydy. They were renaming the Coventry End of the ground to be Lloydy End. Eddie was crying in his Latte - he has them now that he knows they aren't 'gay'. Rumours that people refused to sit at that end cos they thought it could fall over at the slightest touch are not exaggerated. I didn't see any of the game but it looks like the Dockers blew them away in the last quarter. Shame. TAKE THAT DAVE!
ON Easter Monday while you were all scoffing eggs, the Cats n Hawkers were playing out at the Gee in a rather handy game. The Hawks were outta the blocks early and led for most of the game but the Cats managed to pull one out of the bag. Mooney is seriously taking over the mantle of worst kick from 5 metres out in the WORLD. How bad is he? He still managed 4 goals and took a lotta marks. A few reports are expected...
In other games the Kanga's got pumped by the Sinners - Booma managed just 4 touches. He must have heard he was in my dream team. Oh and the Tigers got a caning from the Doggies. B Hall lived to fight another day. Literally. Where is the niggle ladies? Four people thought he would be GONE in round 3 when he lines up against the Hawkers... we shall see!
The Tippers Table
First up... the Side Comp... sadly cos the Pies got over the line, we still have a LOT of people in the comp... so as it jackpots to $30, you will have a reduced field to choose from this week. You must choose your winner from the SUNDAY GAMES only. All other picks will be removed... you have been told.
To the ladder and one tipster managed a full house again this week - Syneeeee potted it and gets and extra point for being a smart arse. Overall, leading the way we have a three-way tie - D Master, Footy Junkie and Seymour Rod are a point clear of a buncha tipsters. At the back of the pack, Bampo forgot to put his tips in... don't forget you can put yer tips in right until the start of EACH game... so even if you forget the first one you can still get the rest in.

Round 3
There are some absolute crackers this week folks. Probably none bigger than the Crows / Dees. Hmmm. Ok, not so big there but if we lose that game you may never see another footy write-up from the Horseboy again. In the MOTR the Sinners play the Pies on Friday night. Huge game. I'll tip the Sinners cos I hate the Pies.
Port Power n Brissy will battle it out at AAMI and form says this will be a great game... who woulda thunk it? I may even tip the Power... Carlton and Essendon will be looking to get back on the winning bandwagon... hey this could be a draw! But who picks those? I think the Bombers should have enough to get the win. They are getting hammered in the press and that means it's turnaround time. But it is a definite 50/50, and amazingly the same could be said of the Purple Ones against the Catters... but you can't pick Freo can you? Sydney will pump the Tigers, but the Doggies n Hawks? It comes down to the In's n Out's... At this stage the Doggies will go in faves though...

Round 1: It's Really Long.
Hmmmmm! OK, YES I am disappointed. Gottit? I know they Lost! ENOUGH! NO MORE FRIGGIN EMAILS!!! ;)
Must admit Round 1 didn't quite yield the result I was looking for. The Purple Ones played very well, and the Crows didn't. It will be interesting to see how long the Anchors can keep it up for eh? Barlow put in a great first game - 33 possessions. Disturbing.
The Crows game wasn't the only surprise for the weekend though. On Sunday morning I awoke expecting to get an extra hour sleep. Isn't Daylight saving over on the last weekend of March??? Apparently not, but that didn't stop me from telling some friends they would get a nice sleep in on Sunday morning... And such was the trust of their source aka Horseboy, that when they were speaking with some other friends on Saturday, they said hey, lets have breakfast before you go to the house of the Lord - after all, you get an extra hours sleep... So off to breaky they trotted... wondering why the rest of the people they saw had their watches still set for the old time... how STUPID is everyone? And even the cafe appears to have their clock set wro.... oh... hmmmm!!!!!
Whoops.... sorry bout that :)
Anyway, Round 1 is finally over. I'm glad all the rounds don't go for this long. I REALLY hope they don't start these bluddy Monday night games....
But from Thursday night through to Sunday night it was Footy Fest... the only trouble being that most of the games were actually not great. They featured players cramping, players falling over, players missing targets, and players going the odd thump. And that was just the Blues / Tigers game. After all the questions about Les Blues, they did actually find a few ways to goal in the Fev Free Forward Line - 9 of them, with Betts, Yarran and the Oirish Clown Setanta kicking 3 a piece and 6 others chiming in. Handy effort. Of course you need to balance that with the fact they were playing the Tiggers. They were just as inept as you would imagine they would be. Easy win to the Bluebaggers to give them their only win of the first 9 rounds.
On Friday night as I was out watching the Dead Weather tear up the stage, I clicked on the ole footy app expecting to see a caning. The Cats were playing the Bombers and lets be kind and say the latter are a work in progress. I gasped audibly as the margin matched the expectation but it was the BOMBERS who were leading halfway through the 2nd quarter! First thought that crossed the mind was just how unbearable Daaaaaaaave would be if the Bombers actually DID get up... Fortunately sanity prevailed and the Catters shredded the Bombers in the end... *phew* 6 goals was more than enough. I just saw that Hille didn't get suspended... yer kidding me aren't you???
On saturday the Hawks played the Dees. Result as expected. Over at ANZ Stadium meanwhile Horseboy and Lady Horseboy were unable to make it out to the Swans as She had broken a trotter the day prior. Ouch. I gave the Swans a huge chance of winning. Why? Why? Why? No idea. I guess they were in the contest and they did have more shots on the scoreboard but... yes. Koshitsme got reported and will get 3 or 4 games - of COURSE he will - I had him in my dream team...
Meanwhile up at the Gabba, the Fev made his debut for the Lions against the Eagles. The Eagles somehow dominated the game. Absolutely no idea how. They are shizer. But for the first 3 quarters they led well, and at three quarter time with the Lions down to 19 men, the money was on the Eagles to close it out. Nup. All of a sudden Browny launched himself into the game and it was game over. Very good victory given the circumstances but I'm not sure what it means for their finals credibility...
On Sunday the Paps officially launched their new guernsey and did it pretty easy over the Roos but who really gives a flying?
Finally, in the match of the round the Doggies played the Pies. After a great year last year and winning the whocarescup it's fair to say the Dogs were favorites. 350 games to Bradley J was going to provide extra incentive and with Big Bad Bustling Barry dominating the forward line I figured the Pies wouldn't match em. They did and then some. While the Dogs came back again and again, they never got into a winning position (a bit like the Crows) and down they went. Mind you did you see the Doggies dude with the mohawk? Oh lord. The guy got on the telly so much he ended up with his own lil thread. Impressive. In the dictionary sense.
The Tippers
Clearly there are some Pies feral folk in the comp this year that backed their own team cos there were a few that backed the Pies, but the one Pie that took the cake was the Footy Junkie - getting the full house, he gets the bonus point to lead by 2 points after the first round. Great effort. B'stard. With 60 people in the comp this year there will be prizes to the Top 10 or maybe more - I will do the sums and see how we go.
In the side comp a few of you forgot to put yer selections in. Yer idiots. 47 people left. It will jackpot by $10 a week so into week 2 we go and it is up to $20 (I should have worked in audit...). You can pick from all the games... I suggest you do...
Round 2
There is some crud amongst the jewels this week and the Pies playing one of about 20 games at the G this year host the Dees. One. Sided. You can add the Tigers v Dogs to those two words. Seriously do the Tigers and Dees have a chance against anyone this year?
Up at the Gabba on THURSDAY night... yes thats right THURSDAY night... the IsFevolas play the WasFevolas. You would imagine the Blues will be out to show they didn't need the big ugly mofo, and the big ugly mofo will be out to show they did. Brisbane will do enough.
The Beagles held it together for 3 quarters against Brissy and that will be more than enough to knock off the Paps as they duke it out for 10th position, while a Koshitsme-free sinners will make it 2 on the trot against the Roos.
In what will be (hopefully) a cracker of a game, the all out attack of the Crows meets the all out attack of the Swans. The skills of these two teams on the weekend was unbelievable... hmm. At home the Crows should have too much. If they don't then young Neil may start looking for an assistant job with GWS.
In AirConditioned Stadium the Bombers host the Dockers. Despite the Dockers putting in a great effort against the Crows, and Essendon being Essendon, I still can't see the Purple ones winning... And finally you can expect the Cats to put the Hawks away pretty easily. On yer bike.
